A perfectly ordinary British village where absolutely nothing is ever straightforward.
Much Pothering is a small village somewhere in the British countryside. Its exact location is deliberately vague, largely because the residents would rather nobody came looking.
On the surface, it’s a perfectly respectable place. There are tidy gardens, a village hall, a duck pond, a pub and several people who take themselves far too seriously.
Scratch beneath the surface, however, and you’ll discover a place where the smallest inconvenience can become a matter of considerable public concern. There are longstanding disagreements, peculiar local customs, village committees of questionable usefulness and residents who have not spoken to one another since an unfortunate incident involving a raffle in 1998 at the village fete.
Mrs Malarkey lives here, quietly observing the goings-on and occasionally finding herself involved in matters she’d much rather have avoided.
Much Pothering is fictional, of course.
Any resemblance to real villages, actual residents or events that may or may not have happened is entirely coincidental. Probably.
